You’ll instead be moving around quite a bit, probably more than you’d think! Some of the basses that they offer are over 10 pounds! If you’re just sitting in a room by yourself practicing your bass then the weight really doesn’t matter that much but if you are standing and using a strap, it becomes a whole different story.įor those who plan on playing in a band or up on a stage, you probably aren’t just going to be standing. There’s a reason why they are one of the biggest music companies in the world!Īnother thing I should mention though is that Fender basses are pretty heavy compared to other basses in general which has to do a lot with the design of them. Don’t worry, we won’t go through all of the different brand names on there but I wanted to hit the big ones.įirst of all, Fender is a great company and they make great basses. Now let’s take a closer look at some of the different basses on the table. It doesn’t have that many controls, it’s reliable, and it actually has a pretty great sound for the price. This neck is both wider and thicker because it needs to be able to support extra tension from the 2 extra strings which means the bass is going to be heavier than most others. ![]() Instead, it’s the fact that adding these two extra strings means that this bass has a bigger neck. The extra 2 strings alone aren’t what make this bass heavier than the rest though. Something else which actually does add extra weight onto this bass is the fact that it’s a 6 string. First of all, just like most of the other basses on the table, this thing is solid wood the whole way through. The reason why this bass is so much heavier than the others has to do with a couple things. The lightest bass out of the 25 basses that I looked at was the Hofner VB100 Violin Bass Guitar which weighed in at a very light 4.7 pounds (2.3 kilograms)!īut why is this bass so much lighter than the others? If I show you a picture of this bass, you might know why. Now that we have the table to look at, let’s talk about some of the different basses on it. BrandĪs you can also see, I tried to choose as many different brands as I could find so that way I could get an actual average weight of all the bass guitars out there.įinding these results was very difficult so while the table might not be 100% accurate, I did the very best I could to make sure that the info on this table is right. Instead of doing a whole 25 part list for this article, I thought it would be much easier for you to just look at this table. So what basses did I take a look at exactly? Well, let’s take a look at each and every one of them. ![]() The lightest of these basses was 4.7 pounds (2.13 kilograms) while the heaviest bass was 12 pounds (5.44 kilograms). Holding a really heavy bass for a long time can become uncomfortable so how much do basses weigh on average?Īfter looking at 25 different bass guitars, the average weight is 8.54 pounds (3.87 kilograms). ![]() Whenever you pick up a bass and hold it yourself for the first time, the weight is probably going to be the very first thing you notice.
